For the past year or so I have been working on getting the Dictionary of Pāli Proper Names into a modern online format that is easy and convenient to use.
The Dictionary was prepared by Dr. G.P. Malalasekera and first published in 1938. It is a supplement to the Pāli-English Dictionary, which didn’t include names.
The first thing necessary was to proofread the text. That led on to making many corrections and additions, especially of Pāli passages which were left without translation in the original.
I have also made some small vocabulary changes, and standardised the text. All of this and more is explained in detail on the page.
I have also made three PDFs and EPUBs to compliment the online work. The first is complete; the second extracts the information about the Jātakas, and the 3rd the Vaṁsa literature.
I hope this work will be useful to students everywhere and help bring the knowledge contained in this exhaustive work to all who are interested.
