Although we live in a rather remote monastery we very often invited to attend outside danas from this monastery, and if the occasion is big enough there is a group of monks living in various places who come together to perform the ceremonies.
The lead monk for the chanting on these occasions is Ajahn Sujīvo, a Malaysian born monk who first ordained over twenty years ago. He trained in Thailand and therefore chants in Thai-style.
Just before Christmas there were a series of danas being organised and Ajahn stayed here for a week or so, and I took the opportunity to record him chanting some of the main protection chants.
These videos can be found on my Dharma Records youtube channel; and these and others can be found on Dharma Records on the Internet Archive in mp3 format.
As a blessing for the New Year I include one of the videos from that playlist here. It is a recording of the First Discourse of the Buddha. It includes an Introductory Chant which must be from the Thai tradition, as I never heard it in Sri Lanka.
