I have just returned from my second trip to Bali in recent years where I was photographing some of the places I missed just the first trip. One of the main classes of buildings I had omitted on my first trip was the Palaces. But this time I made sure to cover some of them. The photographs are in two albums, one of the Residential Palace at Karangasem, and the two Water Palaces which are nearby; and one of the Main Palace in Ubud along with its Water Palace.
The Water Palaces are particularly beautiful, I feel, and the Balinese evidently have a great feel for gardens and lakes, which shows in these constructions. The Water Palace at Karangasem is particularly well-situated with the Bali Sea in the background from one view and Mount Agung in the background from another view.
There is also a particularly fine collection of Guardians on display in these Palaces, and the designs are indebted to some of the greatest artists in recent Balinese history.
