The fourth in the series of bilingual books about the narrative reliefs at Borobudur has just been published in Jakarta. In over 400 pages it covers the Jātaka reliefs and has some of the best known stories from the Buddhist tradition, including the whole of the Jātakamālā.
Later the book will be made available in PDF, but for now the photos and captions in English can be found online at these addresses: Level 1, Balustrade, Top, at Borobudur and Level 1 Balustrade, Bottom, at Borobudur.
These are some of the most attractive of the reliefs found at Borobudur, and also we have many of them identified, particularly at the beginning of the sequence where the sculptors were following the Sanskrit Jātakamāla.
I must thank the translator, Yin Naṭadhītā, for her hard work in making these stories available in Bahasa Indonesia, and to Andreas Dīpaloka for his masterful layout. As always I am very indebted to Handaka Vijjānanda and Ehipassiko for their generous support of this project.
